Overflow Crowd At Mt. Holyoke

Posted on Dec 02, 04

More than 150 people filled the chairs, sat on the floor, and stood against that walls at last night's "Psychotherapy and Schizophrenia: Should Listening Replace Drugs?" event at Mt. Holyoke College.

The diverse crowd included schizophrenia survivors, psychiatrists, alternative health care practitioners, family members, therapists, activists, administrators, mystics, and students. Catherine Penney and Dr. Daniel Dorman presented the powerful story of Catherine's recovery from a "hopeless case" of schizophrenia, and Gail Hornstein of Mt. Holyoke and Will Hall and Caty Simon of Freedom Center provided a context on the struggle for truly humane treatment options in mental health care.

Thanks to everyone for making this event such a great success, and apologies for the 50+ people who got turned away at the door. Please contact us if you'd like to get a video, which Freedom Center will be selling soon at cost.
